Digital convergence
Interactive Radio - on your PC, smartphone or tablet enables audiences to open a specific app and allows you more control over the radio station in question – e.g. listening to pre recorded programmes rather than listening to the current live broadcast.
This can be accessed as a traditional radio, however dependent upon the broadcaster there is the added bonus of being able to access additional content, programmes or avail of ‘catch up’ services.
Podcasting - Popularised by the advent of the iPod era, typically offers episodic shows, similar to radio shows have been broadcast for decades.
These can be linked to already existing radio shows; or standalone broadcasts.
Traditional and DAB - FM/ AM services are still available in the UK, however there has been a concerted effort to promote a move to digital radio. Some regional stations are now available nationally thanks to DAB and have increased their potential audience because of this.
