BBC Sounds and meeting the needs of audiences

How does the BBC meet the needs of its audiences?

- reception theory - Stuart Hall
preferred, opposed, negotiated

-something they can relate to

-BBC - PSB  - Public broadcast service

-BBC sounds is the portal to BBC radio's web services

-podcast - prerecorded radio show

BBC sounds website -
- lots of pictures, of different shows and podcasts, usually with a picture of the host or what is happening on the radio right now
- lots of variety, something for everyone
- short but to the point descriptions on each podcast
- categories to browse more specific sounds
- simplistic web portal to a range of different services, easily accessible to a range of audiences and can be accessed on desktop computer or mobile phone, straightforward to use and many hyperlinks to click on
- simple layout allows a range of audiences to find the content they want to find and all new shows too
- digital hosting allows audiences the opportunity to rewind, fastforward, download and listen in their own time
- appeals to younger, digitally connected audiences
- audio quality is superior

horror / comedy
- weird , semi pop culture
- previous works by the writer define a potential audience - young, into slightly weirder stuff (esp pendleton ward - adventure time cartoon, semi kids show but carrying more adult themes )
- high audio quality, stereo mix creates emersion and high production value - feels more comfortable, paying licence fee
