• Producers rely on audience's desire to see both repetition and difference of genre conventions: seeking out the familiar, while also seeking something vaguely new and different.

• Over time, genres change (generic fluidity), combine with one another (generic hybridity) and form entirely new genres and subgenres

• Genres are useful for producers from an industrial perspective, as they allow for the precise and specific targeting of certain specific audiences

• Partial restoration of the equilibrium
• All narratives share a basic structure that involves a movement from one state of equilibrium to another
• The idea that these two states of equilibrium are separated by a period of imbalance or disequilibrium
• The way in which narratives are resolved can have particular ideological significance.

in many ways typical of genre yet it does sufficient - steve neals theory to subvert the genre 


Les revenants in many ways is typical of the zombie genre, though also has unconventional aspects, due to the fluidity and hybridity of genre, and the audience's desire to see both familiar and new genre conventions. For example, Les revenants fits with the conventions of a zombie show - the dead coming back to life, the mise en scene of an isolated setting, and the dull and gloomy lighting, though many of the conventional aspects are subverted, such as the setting, despite being isolated, has a large community of people, and time still passes through it, looking modern unlike the abandoned and wrecked buildings of a conventional zombie tv show; The returned are shown to be hungry, but not aggressive or "mindless". The subversions of conventions, and the conventional parts themselves create a more appealing show to audiences
