End of year self-assessment

1 - You recently completed a mock exam. What feedback did you receive? And how are you going to address this?

"
You must include more media language. Shot types, camera angles, mise-en-scene, lexis, colour, setting, whatever, if you're not using these words, you're not getting marks!"

Revise more of the media language and include it more in exams. Use it more in making notes, I could watch/read something and then use media language to analyse it in my own time.

2 - What have been the three best bits of the course so far? Why did you enjoy them? What can you do to do more of this kind of stuff?

I enjoyed studying music videos a lot because they were interesting to analyse and watch. I could watch more music videos in my free time and maybe even analyse them to a mock question to practice for exams, if one of the questions is an unseen music video. I could also try to make another music video, but try animation or something similar, because I really enjoyed making mine.

3 - Check out the revision guide. Which part of the upcoming year are you most excited by?

Videogames :D I enjoy the art it takes to make them, so I think it would be very interesting to me.

4 - Think positively. What grade are you going to get for media? How are you going to make this happen? What temporary sacrifices might you have to make? How are you going to make it enjoyable? (!?)

I am hoping to get an A or a B to continue higher education. To do this, I could consume more of the media in the course (films, magazines etc.) and write reviews on them?; and to continue trying more things like video games, podcasts etc in a media studies mindset.

5 - What are you doing after VI form? Are you going straight in to work? An apprenticeship? Uni? Where? What grades or experience do you need? What is your end game? What is your dream job, and how are you going to make it happen?

I'm planning on doing the Foundation Art course at Long Road, so I will need the highest grades I can get, and also some good work to put into my portfolio such as my music video. I want to do some sort of creative course at University; I have been looking at games design and illustration at ARU and games art and design at Norwich university.

6 - Life is more than just VI form and A-levels. What are your hobbies and interests? Do you take photos, make music, dance, go cycling? How are you going to do as much of this as possible over the summer and beyond?

I crochet and make things as a hobby, and my interests include music and playing video games. Over the summer I would like to try and setting up a shop for the things I create, and learn how to play the guitar or bass. I would also like to try more games, and I plan to try and learn to make one. :)

7 - What's your biggest weakness in media? Don't worry, you're going to deal with this! How are you going to address it?

Theorists, and knowing what the question is asking me. I could try past papers, and continue to revise key theories and case studies to put them to use.

8 - What three revision methods work best for you? Be honest: 'reading my notes' doesn't work well for 99% of students! Remember: mixing and matching revision methods is the best way forward...

1- highlighting written notes, colour coding
2 - re-writing notes, making them more organised
3- flashcards
